Labor Candidate Thanks Government For Decision PDF Print E-mail

ImageLabor Candidate for the State seat of Beaudesert, Brett Raguse, said that today's decision to site the Logan System dam at Wyaralong, was a positive outcome for the Rathdowney residents and the Government.

The Rathdowney residents had shown true community spirit to organise themselves to fight the proposed Tilley's Bridge site.

"Premier Beattie acknowledged the effect that the community's input into the debate had made on the Government's decision making process," Mr Raguse said.

"I attended a public meeting organised by the action group at Rathdowney in May and I heard first hand from the Rathdowney residents how their lives would have been affected by the proposed dam.

"They have organised their protest very professionally by gathering facts and figures cogent to the discussion. Their input has helped the Government to make this difficult decision.

"As the Labor Candidate at the up-coming election, I will offer my assistance to those residents at Wyaralong who have been affected by today's decision," he said.

Mr Raguse said that water was high on the Government's agenda, and that in the current drought situation all avenues should be pursued including recycling, water tanks, water audits, and building suitable dams, to conserve this precious resource.

"People who advocate a 'no dams' policy are not being realistic. In order for the South East Queensland region to grow and prosper over the next twenty years the Government has no choice but to build dams at suitable sites in the South East," he said.
