About Brett Raguse

Brett Raguse was born and educated in Queensland.

Brett’s family connections to the Forde electorate date back to the late 1800’s, with both sides of Brett’s family descending from early settlers in the Fassifern and Beaudesert region.

After completing an apprenticeship in Graphic Arts, Brett pursued business opportunities in Graphic Arts and Media, including the publication of local and community newspapers.

As a mature aged student, Brett attained a Degree and Post-Graduate Degree in Education. This led Brett to pursue a career in teaching, lecturing, college and faculty directorships. A later foray back into the private sector led to the provision of training and educational programs both nationally and internationally.

Brett has lived in a number of townships within the Beaudesert Shire, building successive homes and raising four children.

Family commitments brought Brett into contact with many residents through his children’s schooling, sporting activities and social gatherings.

Brett’s involvement in a number of community groups and organisations broadened his understanding of the complex social fabric of Forde.

Through community work and engagement Brett became aware of the problems facing a growing community. It was clear that more needed to be done.

Brett understands that with intensive growth and development and the demand for services across the region, it is important now more than ever to be a strong representative for the people of Forde.

Brett’s experience in running small businesses and policy advising provides him with an understanding of government processes.

A former teacher, Brett is a keen advocate for educational opportunities for all. Brett also advocates for more services provided for youth of the electorate.

Brett is an active member of our local communities and has a strong commitment to community development and fighting for a fair go for the people of Forde.

Brett is the patron of the A-Choired Taste, the Scenic Rim Region’s Community Choir and Crete Street Theatre, Beenleigh.

Brett won the seat of Forde in the election on the 24th of November 2007, with a swing of 14.43%, the biggest swing at the 2007 election.

Since February 2008 Brett has been Chair of the Privileges and Member’s Interests Standing Committee.

Brett’s personal interests include water skiing, singing and reading.
